ABSTRACT

Purpose:

In this prospective study, our purpose was to evaluate the effectivity and needness of postoperative drainage in limberg flap procedure in treatment of pilonidal sinüs disease.

Methods:

We present 31 patients with chronic pilonidal disease who underwent Limberg flap procedure in depertmant of general surgery in the Fatih Sultan Mehmet Hospital between September 2002 to April 2004. Cases assigned, according to use of drainage, in two groups. There was no recurrence in each groups. The standart limberg flap procedure was used by clinic trial. We controlled fluid collection that is developed under flap by ultrasonography.

Results:

In postoperative period abcess was formed in 3 patients (%15.4) in group I, that draniage was not used, and 2 patients (%16.7) in group 2, that draniage was used. There was no statistically difference between the groups in infection and minimal fluid collection.

Conclusions:

We conclude that, the use of drainage in limberg flap procedure is not needed.
