ABSTRACT

Malignant melanoma of the gastrointestinal tract is very rare. Most of them are metastatic tumors and can develop in the whole gastrointestinal tract. It usually causes obstruction, intusseption and intra-abdominal mass. In this study, we will present a 35 years old female patient who was diagnosed with intestinal melanoma. She had a history of abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting for last few months. After the physical examination and radiological examinations, a mass which was associated with the right ovarium was detected. After the preperations, she underwent a laparotomy. During the operation, it was seen that the mass was originated from ileum and was invased to the right ovarium and to appendix vermiformis. The patient underwent right oopherectomy, appendectomy and segmental ileal resection. The postoperative course was uneventful and she was discharged on postoperative seventh day. The patient was diagnosed with malignant melanoma after the pathological examination. Primary source of the melanoma could not be found. The patient was referred to the medical oncology clinic.
