ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION:

The objective of this study was document the results of a series performed according to a quality colonoscopy assessment criteria.

METHODS:

This study was conducted from December 2010 to November 2012 in Private Koru Hospital Gastrointestinal Center. It included 1770 colonoscopies. Indications for colonoscopy was made according to the indications of the ASGE (The American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy). The recently proposed quality indicators of the ASGE for colonoscopy were targeted.

RESULTS:

1770 colonoscopies were included in this study. The average age of patiens was 47.7 years old. 40,8% were over 50 years old. Demographic data of the patiens showed that 48% were male and 52% were female. The most common indications for colonoscopy were rectal bleeding, colorectal cancer screening and follow up after a previous polypectomy.The cecal intubation rate was 94,8%. One patient was developed colonoscopic perforation, but ıt was treated nonoperatively. No misdiagnoses were encountered, within the time limits of this survey.

DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION:

Accordance to standardized quality indicators for colonoscopy results in high success and safety.
