ABSTRACT

Transverse colon volvulus is a rare cause of intestinal obstruction. Factors that may predispose to excessive mobilization include an elongated mesentery or a mesentery with a narrow base. Successful treatment relies on early recognition and timely intervention. 51-years old male patient presented to the emergency service with severe abdominal pain, nausea and vomiting. Radiographic and tomographic imaging showed large bowel obstruction. The patient was taken for a laparotomy. Volvulus of transverse colon was found. After a transverse colectomy, exteriorize both ends of colon, the ascending colon as an end colostomy and the proximal descending colon as a mucous fistula.
